What an inspiring evening at Westport Academy in South Baltimore.

Families and students came together for a hands-on STEM night that did more than showcase science. It strengthened community, sparked curiosity, and empowered young leaders to step confidently into the spotlight.

The true highlights of the evening were the LET’S GO–Westport middle school Maryland Science Olympiad team members who served as station leaders. These students did not just participate. They led. They guided younger students and families through experiments, building challenges, and interactive science activities, sharing both their knowledge and their enthusiasm for discovery.

Watching students work side by side with their families to build, experiment, and problem solve was a powerful reminder of why this work matters. STEM education is not only about equations and experiments. It is about creating moments that ignite curiosity and build confidence. It is about showing young people that they belong in spaces of innovation and exploration.

When middle school students take on leadership roles and mentor the next generation, something special happens. Younger students see what is possible. Families experience learning together. And the entire community moves forward.

We are deeply grateful to the South Baltimore Gateway Partnership and The Brown Family Foundation for making this evening possible. Their support helps ensure that high quality STEM programming reaches families across South Baltimore.

Thank you as well to Westport Academy for opening your doors and partnering with us to bring STEM learning to life. Nights like this remind us that the future of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics is bright and it is being built right here in our community.
