Kudos to Coach Colin, Coach Ray, Coach Abby, Darrian, Patrick, and Yusuf! We’re thrilled to share that Team #13427A ranked 30th in the state of Maryland out of 41 teams after their very first competition. Keep up the great work!

About the Baltimore City Robotics League V5

The Baltimore City Robotics League V5 is an invitational league for middle and high school teams from Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPSS). The league is run by the Robotics Education and Competition Foundation (RECF), which oversees VEX competitions nationwide and helps expand access to high-quality STEM opportunities.

Teams compete in the VEX V5 Robotics Competition, designing, building, and programming robots to take on a new game challenge each year. Events are hosted at venues such as the BCPSS Professional Development Center. Top-performing teams move on to the Maryland State Championship and potentially the VEX World Championship.

The league is supported by Baltimore City Public Schools, which provides a full-time robotics specialist, and the Abell Foundation, which funds coach stipends to help teams succeed.

League Overview

Baltimore City middle and high school teams compete in an invitational VEX V5 Robotics League that runs from October to May. Each event features matches with a 15-second autonomous period and a 1 minute and 45 second driver-controlled period, all centered on a new VEX V5 game challenge introduced each year. Teams receive support from a full-time robotics specialist, coach stipends, and guidance from league administrators.

Key Features of the League

Competitive Environment: Students strengthen technical skills and learn coding and engineering principles. They also build teamwork and problem-solving abilities.

Season Schedule: Events are held throughout the school year, and top teams can advance to state, national, and world competitions.

Scholarship Opportunities: Through RECF, league participants can access more than 100 college scholarships. These opportunities support students who plan to pursue STEM degrees and careers.
